Southern Hemisphere wins again...
Interesting that in the Queensland article the spokesman says the greenish flourescent color is very rare and indicates it wasn't a meteorite, but I remember about a year ago there were a bunch of green fireballs in the sky all over the Western and South Western US. I think there were about ten cases in just a couple months, all described as green fireballs. _________________ Non Violence is the only weapon we have they cannot out-perform with one of their own.

here's the bit from the ABC link:
| Quote: | Andre Claydon, from the Springbrook Observatory, says the comet is the most likely explanation for the rare phenomenon.
"There is a comet that has just gone past and we're passing through the debris tail of this comet," he said.
"This could be a fragment from the comet itself.
"Over the next two or three days we should see more of this happening, because the Earth is stilling passing through the debris tail of this comet."
But a South Burnett astronomer says the spectacle was probably the result of space junk entering the earth's atmosphere.
Jim Barclay, from the Maidenwell Observatory, says the light could not have been caused by a meteorite.
"Most meteors do not, and I repeat, do not appear of the green-blue fluorescent colours that these people described," he said.
"Metallic substances tend to burn up and give you that greeny-blue fluorescent colours where meteors are generally white in nature."
|
so what were all the green ones in the US?
The one in Washington even made a couple turns and flew all the way down to Eastern Oregon before it turned again and headed for Reno. In fact, I think that one was a multiple unit with three fireballs that even changed colors at some point.
Are we passing through one of SW's tails right now? _________________ Non Violence is the only weapon we have they cannot out-perform with one of their own.

Could be although they were predicted to sweep higher than earth's trajectory.
A. Fragment 3-BD, might have dumped debris we are already now plowing through.
depending on ACTUAL miss distance
B. the comet's larger fragments which passed closest on get this, 9/11, seem to be in spectacular outburst thus wider and more expansive than anticipated.

California reporter, declared last week:
"A light meteor shower should also occur starting late next week as tiny bits of comet crash into the Earth's atmosphere. For the best views, dodge city lights by driving into the San Gabriel Mountains or heading for the desert."

I think fragment-S which crosses earth's path precisely on June 6th is most likely to give us a debris bundle that earth will plow through in mid-June.

Ya know, I've been watching this green-glowing fireball stuff for years now, even seen some humdingers here in Seattle.
What gets me is that with almost every green glob that comes in there is always some designated Official waiting to declare the breakup of a satellite, often an alleged Russian sat.
At last! This guy, Andre Claydon, from the Springbrook Observatory, says it is a comet frag.

Somehow someone always comes up with explanations that are supposed to account for each and every unexplainable occurrance.
Driving to work one morning just at daylight........I saw a very neon green blob moving across the sky and toward the ground. If I could have driven my car through the private fields and swamp I could have gone straight to it.
At work I mentioned this to several scientists and their explanation
was "more than likely" it was an airliner "flushing" their toilet.......which contains green toilet cleaner and freezes before it hits the ground. They know the routes well enough to always "flush" over swamp or forest or wide open spaces.
Oh well...........bet you haven't heard that one _________________ Is that all there is? Is that all there is, If that's all there is my friend, then lets keep dancing |

Yes. "Scientists."

That's an urban legend. Airliners don't flush their toilets overboard! And even if they were to do that, the contents would turn into mist before freezing. They're travelling at 500 miles per hour, for heck sakes! If the flush took one second, the fluid would be spread out over 250 yards. |

I can't figure how to print the segments of the java animation that totally blows Kent's assertions the comet actually crosses the Earth's orbit... but I assure you, it doesn't.
