Quote of the Day

"It just seems like people are panicking.
I don't think it's going to be too bad."

~ James Ivery, an Alexandria, Va., resident, on a massive snowstorm headed to Washington that is expected to dump 30 in. or more; many supermarkets are running out of basic food items.

Human error blamed for Mars probe's loss
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/space/04/13/mars.surveyor.ap/index.html

Shortly before it failed, it also found stunning evidence that liquid water recently coursed through Mars. The discovery, which still needs to be confirmed, raises the possibility that the planet may have an environment conducive to primitive life.

NOTES:

A. Water can remain unfrozen at low temperatures and ordinary pressures because of

* freezing point depression due to hydration,
* freezing point depression due to osmotic effects (these are both equilibrium effects),
* supercooling: the delay or absence of formation of an ice crystal in the absence of efficient ice nucleators and/or
* the high viscosity produced by high concentrations of solutes (these are non-equilibrium effects).

B. What blew away the Martian atmosphere?
1. Whatever caused the Mars scar

2. A powerful CME, solar winds
example: Solar wind blows some of Earth's atmosphere into space

C. Evidence of standing water on Mars

So has it actually failed due to human error. Or is this another who killed kenny item. Perhaps it discovered something that was not meant to be discovered yet. scratchinghead

quite expedient to blame human error. I don't think we're being told the whole story. I am increasingly skeptical when NASA offers anything these days.
