Quote of the Day

"It just seems like people are panicking.
I don't think it's going to be too bad."

~ James Ivery, an Alexandria, Va., resident, on a massive snowstorm headed to Washington that is expected to dump 30 in. or more; many supermarkets are running out of basic food items.

Not to downplay the destruction of hurricanes but....

Why are people surprised that there are hurricanes in hurricane season?

Mol....Kent was clearly pointing out what appears to be an oddity with this tropical depression, not that there is a tropical depression:

Speaking for myself, Mol, I'm not surprised at hurricanes during hurricane season but rather dismayed at the number of them.

While this area is about as used to hurricanes as you can get, we're not used to one right after another - well, after last year, we began to get used to it but it's still kind of unsettling, yaknow?

If you consider that in 1992 we had Andrew in the middle of August and now we're up to Ophilia in early September, I'm sure you can see where the element of surprise could come into play, but for me it's not surprise I feel at all but a sense of being sick and tired of being sick and tired of worrying about hurricanes.

I think that's why people are interested in them and post when a new one is forming.

pissed look Mol- we are only half way throug the hurricane season and even if the hurricane count is more than "normal" i tend to get a little pissed at the intentional steering of some of these storms- proof- do not need to prove what I feel- when the big one hits Texas and close to home I might even be a little more pissed, I do not think the world is ready to see the reaction of Bear

Jeez. I just was pointing out it is hurricane season.

I guess I just didn't see what was odd (still don't) about the storm in question and just figured it was another post about having hurricanes in hurricane season.

I will try to track down some data regarding hurricane numbers over the years.

HERE is a link to hurricane data.

The last graph on the page shows number of hurricanes over more than a century.

There does not appear to be a significant increase in the number of storms....

the perfect circle in the storm indicates that wall building is preceeding "normally" and the that shear is at a minimum. As upper level winds increase, the eye will tend to deteriorate and lose it's nice circular aspect.

What makes this storm unique is that it is being fed by a large high in the Northest and forming so close to land.

Even some meteorologists have been warning to expect more and bigger weather oddities of all types and everywhere.

No link; I read it on a forum, somewhere. roll Many posts in different places, actually.
