While this area is about as used to hurricanes as you can get, we're not used to one right after another - well, after last year, we began to get used to it but it's still kind of unsettling, yaknow? If you consider that in 1992 we had Andrew in the middle of August and now we're up to Ophilia in early September, I'm sure you can see where the element of surprise could come into play, but for me it's not surprise I feel at all but a sense of being sick and tired of being sick and tired of worrying about hurricanes. I think that's why people are interested in them and post when a new one is forming. I guess I just didn't see what was odd (still don't) about the storm in question and just figured it was another post about having hurricanes in hurricane season. The last graph on the page shows number of hurricanes over more than a century. There does not appear to be a significant increase in the number of storms.... Description:      Airborne Joined: 18 Jan 2005 Posts: 2528 Age: 58  Leo Location: The Northern Piedmont of VA  the perfect circle in the storm indicates that wall building is preceeding "normally" and the that shear is at a minimum. As upper level winds increase, the eye will tend to deteriorate and lose it's nice circular aspect.
