Hi Kent. You seem to hang out in all the cool places! I've forewarded this to my radar expert and we'll see if he has a moment to give us his two cents worth.
My expert for those wondering is a 63 year old gentleman by the name of Bill Brownson. He lives up in Washington State. A very good friend, ex Air Force radar man, and my sponsor for the websites I build. With out this good man, I would be stuck building on Tripod or Geocities.
Anywho, I'll foreward on the info, if I can't talk Bill into signing up here. He's not much for forums, but I'm trying to coax him into coming over here and signing up. If you see a new guy here going by the nick "BigBill" that'll be him.
Peace!

Weird is right! Keep us posted, Kent.
Don't know whether this has anything to do with it, but there was a very strange, slightly pink glow in the western sky early this morning in NZ. Not your average "red sky in the morning" look, just a strange pink line.
What time zone is that stamp? |

omg....
seems like those highly intriguing bright anomalies are always just outside of the image frame
that was over a several day period?
damn.
Wonder if there was another satellite that picked it up?

GOES-10 is over 135 W longitude.
It takes the Earth one hour to rotate through 15 degrees of longitude (360 degrees divided by 24 hours = 15 degrees)
To rotate from 0 to 135 W takes 135 / 15 = 9 hours.
At 9:00 UT, when the images are taken, the Sun is directly on the other side of the Earth from the satellite.
In other words, 9:00 UT is local midnight at 135W.
The satellite's camera is therefore pointing towards the Sun, which is (mostly) behind the Earth.
I doubt it's only coincidence that the "glow" appears at 9:00 UT. It's light from the Sun. |

Sounds plausible, Greendog.
I have to go out now. I'll check this thread later. |
