Glamis Castle, in Angus, ancestral home of the Bowes-Lyons or Earls of Strathmore, as well as the Queen Mother (Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) and hence, the current Windsor Royals. It's also the birthplace of Princess Margaret. Glamis (pronouned "glahms") is surrounded by a variety of eerie and disturbing legends...

I saw this, but I don't have any family history on Elizabeth Queen Mother's experiences there as a child. I'll see what I can find out. If this place is running rampant with entities that would have affected QE2 at some point. Those things get passed down. She's not herself these days, you know? They're using stand-ins for her, as they did for the pope toward the end.
I THINK the ones marked with yellow are stand-ins. I said, I THINK.

Whenever I come across something in my adulthood that I actually remember learning in high school, which is so very rare, I get so excited that I feel I must demonstrate said knowledge.
Eleventh grade Honors English, reading Macbeth from start to finish, passing quiz after quiz and finally submitting a research paper on it, and the only quote I remember directly?
Banquo, to Macbeth - Thou hast it now: King, Cawdor, Glamis, all, and I fear thou play'st most foully for it.
Impressed?
Whoa, almost forgot the other quote that is actually the more profound and certainly more famous...and indeed, I know it by heart:
Macbeth - Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Sorry, Kent, for the topic veerage. Thanks for the original link about creepy Glamis...I didn't even know it was a real place. D'oh! |

Haven't yet located anything on Diana's bees, but a note here:
http://penelope.uchicago.edu/HydrioNoFrames/bees.html
On May 27, 1653 a mason, Adrien Quinquin, working on the reconstruction of the church of Saint-Brice in Tournai, discovered a Merovingian tomb containing various articles, including a leather purse containing gold coins, a gold bracelet, some pieces of iron, and numerous pieces of gold cloisonnéed with garnets, among these the 300 bees.

there is said to be a family-type portrait in the drawing-room, which depicts an earlier Earl of Strathmore, his two sons, and a horribly deformed and unsightly dwarf whom no one can (or will?) identify...

But these are not the greatest terrors of Glamis, which has a horrific secret tradition. For centuries, there have been rumors of the periodic births of 'half-human' or otherwise deformed 'monsters' at Glamis Castle, and their imprisonment, for life, in some of the secret chambers which allegedly exist in the structure. The most recent such birth is said to have occurred in 1800, and the deformed heir to the Bowes-Lyon line was described as having "a huge, egg-like body" (shades of Humpty Dumpty!) and stunted or stubby limbs. He has also been described as being "neckless," and extremely hirsute or hairy.
