True, but that's not the issue at hand.
The reaction in Iraq is the issue. _________________ "I'm getting too old for this scary shit"

Death penalty for Saddam Hussein

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been convicted of crimes against humanity by a Baghdad court and sentenced to death by hanging.
He was found guilty over his role in the killing of 148 people in the mainly Shia town of Dujail in 1982.
His brother Barzan al-Tikriti was also sentenced to death, as was Iraq's former chief judge Awad Hamed al-Bander
Former vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadan got life in jail and three others received 15 year prison terms.
Another co-defendant, Baath party official Mohammed Azawi Ali, was acquitted.
Saddam Hussein shouted out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest) and "Long live Iraq. Long live the Iraqi people!" after the judge announced the verdict.
Correspondents say the former leader looked visibly shocked as the sentence was passed, but the BBC's world affairs editor John Simpson said that as he was led away Saddam Hussein seemed to have a small smile on his face.
"It was as if he was thinking 'I've come here and done what I intended to do'," our correspondent said. _________________ "I'm getting too old for this scary shit"

Saddam, 2 others sentenced to death
BAGHDAD, Iraq -Saddam Hussein and two other men were convicted and sentenced Sunday to death by hanging for war crimes in the 1982 killings of 148 people in the town of Dujail, as the former leader, trembling, shouted "God is great!"
After the verdict was read, Saddam yelled out, "Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!"
Clashes immediately broke out in north Baghdad's heavily Sunni Azamiyah district.
Saddam initially refused the chief judge's order to rise; two bailiffs lifted the ousted ruler to his feet and he remained standing through the sentencing.
Before the hearing began, one of Saddam's lawyers, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, was ejected from the courtroom after handing the judge a memorandum in which he called the trial a travesty.
Chief Judge Raouf Abdul-Rahman pointed to Clark and said in English, "Get out."
In addition to the former Iraqi dictator and Barzan Ibrahim, his former intelligence chief and half brother, the Iraqi High Tribunal convicted and sentenced Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the head of Iraq's former Revolutionary Court, to death by hanging. Iraq's former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Three other co-defendants were convicted of murder and torture and sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
One defendant was acquitted for lack of evidence. _________________ "I'm getting too old for this scary shit"

Saddam Hussein sentenced to hang
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S.-backed Iraqi court on Sunday sentenced toppled leader Saddam Hussein to death by hanging for crimes against humanity
The ousted president, visibly shaken, shouted out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest) and "Long live the nation!."
The Iraqi High Tribunal also handed down death sentences to former revolutionary chief judge Awad Hamed al-Bander and Saddam's half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti. Former Iraqi vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan was sentenced to life in prison.
The charges stemmed from the killing of 148 Shi'ite men in Dujail after an assassination attempt against Saddam in 1982.
A death sentence or life imprisonment generates an automatic appeal, delaying any execution by months at least. Saddam has said he wants to face a military firing squad, not the hangman.

Gaia man who have watched the last several years made a huge prediction on this. This is the one prediction Iv'e been waiting for and watching. He said after Saddam was sentenced or executted I can't remember he would give a speech that would ignite the eastern world and really kick off the next great war. Let's hope he was wrong. If he is right as he has been with many, many other predictions I say we have really been misled in concerning the real state of affairs. Right around electuion time as well? hmmmm _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power then shall we move.

I wonder if Rumsfeld and those that created, enabled and propped Saddam up for so many years will meet the same fate? _________________ Disclaimer for Molbasser, Neal and SotD: This post may be an opinion and may contain sarcasm or hyperbole and in most cases, should not be taken literally.

Saddam urges Iraqis to end sectarian violence
Associated Press
AMMAN, Jordan — Saddam Hussein urged Iraqis on Sunday to reject the sectarian violence ripping his country apart and to "not take revenge" on "invading" forces, his chief lawyer said after the ousted leader was sentenced to death.
Saddam expressed his views shortly before he and two co-defendants were convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for war crimes in the 1982 killings of 148 people in the town of Dujail.
Saddam "knew that he would be sentenced to death and wanted me to pass on this message to the Iraqi people and to the whole world after the verdict was announced," Khalil al-Dulaimi told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from Baghdad.
"His message to the Iraqi people was 'pardon and do not take revenge on the invading nations and their people'," al-Dulaimi said. "The president also asked his countrymen to 'unify in the face of sectarian strife'."
"The president said that 'Saddam Hussein won't be defeated," the attorney added. "He said the people will remain strong and steadfast."
Al-Dulaimi condemned Saddam's trial as a "farce," claiming the verdict was planned. He said defense attorneys would appeal within 30 days.
"Since day one, we said the trial was politically motivated 100 percent and that it's completely illegal," he said. "The defense voice was not allowed to be heard at all."
Al-Dulaimi also said that the security situation in Baghdad was "very dangerous."
"Iranian intelligence and U.S. invaders are patrolling around. There's nobody else on the streets," he said. "Baghdad looks like a ghost town."

Well, the world knows that is true.
I don't believe in capital punishment, so I have mixed feelings about the verdict. |

Amnesty International is questioning the fairness of an Iraqi court's trial of Saddam Hussein.
Officials of the London-based human rights group said Sunday the court proceedings were "marred by serious flaws," and were "not impartial."
Amnesty International also condemned the death sentences given to the ousted Iraqi president and two of his former senior aides after they were found guilty of crimes against humanity.
The organization opposes capital punishment.
Meanwhile, Iraq's prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, addressed the nation on television afterwards, saying the court verdict was aimed not only at Saddam, but also at the entire "dark" period of his rule.
Mr. Maliki says Saddam's eventual execution of Saddam may provide comfort to the families of the many thousands of people killed by his regime.
Today's death sentence immediately triggered an automatic appeal process, expected to last about four weeks.
The court also delivered judgments against seven former Saddam aides charged in connection with the Dujail killings.
